features of big 4th of July Celebration was the Cookout King Contest sponsored jointly by the Fayette Cou nty Farm Bureau and Peoples Natural Gas For a couple of hours while the contestants were preparing their goodies for the vis it of the judges there was the most tantalizing aroma you ever lent a nostril to coming from the cookout When the judging was Jim Lein emerged the winner of the poultry David Jellings was the champion beef and Paul genial man ager of KOEL turned up the winner in the pork All three of these gentlemen are now to journey to Des Moines and take part in the Cookout King contest during the State In the top photo we see Paul David Jellings and Jim Lein all rig ged out in their cookery The other fellow is a and he won in the novelty class but due to the fact that he had no compet ition he will not be to the State Fair We had a sample of each of the tasty delights these fellows turned out and they were really Thats Sonny McFarlane in the 2nd photo and much help drawing the and thats what happened right here in Arlington on the 4th of Estimates of up to visitors during the day would seem to be no and comments of many of those visitors indicate that happened that day if we put them all in one The day started with a Trap Shoot at the football but we havent latched on to those results as We were there though and really surprised at the good turnout for the shoot We were also quite sur prised to find that some of the local blades are pretty durn good We did get the results of the 4H Livestock Show and well give you those first In the Beef heavyweight Liz Murrell came in first David second Joyce Greis Lightweight John first Loren second Mark John James won Grand Champion and Jerry Brink won Showmanship in the Beef In the Dairy Tom Ham lett and John Turner tied for first place with Matt Hamlett taking second honors and David Rodas placing John Turner won Grand Champion honors and David Rodas won Showmanship in the Dairy Hogs were but Jim Derr won first place with his market pen of If we find there were other winners in that class well print them next week In the Sheep Mike Mur rell took top honors with his pen of Dwight Mauer took second honors while Gene Bond won the white ribbon for In the in dividual Sheep contests Mike Mur rell came through with another blue ribbon while Dwight Mauer won the red ribbon and Dennis Cor des showed the third place Steven Daisy took top honors in the Horse division with his pretty little pony and he was one proud little fellow as he accepted his blue ribbon from Floyd co chairman of the Livestock Show along with Don Several hundred people viewed the show and it was a good one all the way with the young showmen handling their animals in expert There were an awful lot of handsome steaks on the hoof at the show and it will have to go down as another success for the area Next well give you the winners of the big parade divisions and we continue to be amazed at the a bility of the local clubs and bus iness places to come up with such fine looking The Good Will Club of Arlington took top honors with their float and they really deserved Town Country Cafe took top honors in the Horse di While Curl Harbor won the blue ribbon in the novelty Fairfield 4H Club won the blue ribbon for the kids Red Ribbons were won by Joes float Roy horses Valley novelty Putnam 4H White Ribbons were won by Help ful float ABS Breeder horses Als novelty several ties in the kids we know you are patiently waiting to find out who won all of the fine prizes the Arlington Bus Club give away to close out a successful day at the football Rodney Schumaker of Man chester won the quarter of Kathy Pierce of Arlington won the half of Al Straw berry Points genial won the Patio Gas Philip Charles Barti of AREA ONE OPEN HOUSE A BIG HIT Over people toured the Area One Campus and viewed new educational A large crowd was on hand to witness the dedication of the Trade and Indus trial That busy guy always finds time to spend an hour or so in Arlington on the 4th and this time he brought his lovely wife and handsome kids with We were i honored to have them as luncheon guests and a pleasant visit before John had to rush off to be the guest of honor at a baseball game in Culver and the kids and their baby sitter left for the Culver summer cottage in McGre All in it was a very suc
