Over Street Opening Settled by City Agreeing to Pay S March City council at a special adjourned meeting held at 10 o'clock this ing refused to take any action at all on the ordinance providing for the ing of twenty-seventh street between and Maple avenues owing to a protest against the paving made by the property owners along tlm street The ordinance providing for the ing of the was introduced by Commissioner Frank some time ago and following a number of protests by the owners appeared at one council meeting and they were un- willing to pave now on account of the hard times final action was postponed time The ordinance came up for final action this morning and Mr moved for its final passage making a statement in which lie stated that there had not been one street paving project brought up in the past two years for a thoroughfare along which tile property as well fixed financially as along this street He made a vigorous plea for the sage claiming the Twenty-seventh street property owners the cost if anyone in the hut none of the other com- missioners was willing to second the the ordinance died for lack of Other Paving Authorized After turning down the ordinance for the Twenty-seventh street paving the commissioners unanimously approved ally ordinances for the paving the following thoroughfares none of the property owners having put up a very fight against the Kinth avenue between Fourteenth and Seventeenth streets second avenue be- tween Fifteenth and yixteenth streets Fourteenth street between Seventeenth and Twentieth avenues nances all passed unanimously and is expected to start on the actual ing early enough to complete all three jobs before cold weather Council received a petition from a number of Fifth ward residents asking for the return by the city of money thriyi paid for a sewer in Eighteenth street from Twentieth avenue to tlie When the sewer was laid it was thought that only the properties on northeast side of the street could drain into it and the owners on that side were assessed for tlie entire sewer Later it found that tlie owners on the southwest side could use tlie Bewer and they were given taps Mow the owners the total-cost ask a rebate of the amount covering the frontage of the owners on the lower side of the street amounting to about for twenty-five feet front The petition was filed and referred to Commissioner Rooney who will pre- pare a resolution authorizing the rebate to which the owners are entitled to be presented at the next meeting Petition for Paving Commissioner Rooney introduced an ordinance providing for the paving with brick of Fourth avenue between Twelfth and Thirteenth streets the paving ing been petitioned for by the property owners A long out controversy was finally settled at the meeting when a resolution was unanimously adopted the city solicitor to confess judgment in favor of Samuel March for the sum of Over two years ago in order to straighten Twenty-second street on the north side of Heale avenue tlie city took over a small portion of land from a property there owned by Mr March Kyer since that time the city has been endeavoring to come to an agreement with Mr March over the
