raising the income limit on Social Security again Staff photo by JC Lexow Wilson offers his take on Social Security reform Second Congressional District representative conducts town hall meeting in Wagener By JC LEXOW Staff writer WAGENER There wasnt a whole lot of opportunity for constituents to share their opinions about the condi tion of the Social Security system as a press release billed a Tuesday town hall meeting with US Rep Joe Wilson RSC On the other hand Wilson himself offered up a few details on what he supports thus far in the ongoing debate over reforming the retirement benefits component of the Social Secu rity system Wilson spoke for around a half hour to about 25 people at the Wagener Municipal Center before rushing out to attend another meeting in Colum bia He made it clear before he left that as far as he is concerned raising the income limit yet again on Social Security contributions is not an option Thats been done 21 times That just puts off the problem It doesnt solve it Wilson said Besides according to the Republican congressman who represents the east ern portion of Aiken County doing so would cause additional problems The rich people generally are not rich These are small business people By raising taxes on small business people it affects employment I dont want to raise taxes he said Wilson likes the personal savings plan approach to saving the system In his version retirement contributions by employer and employee each would be at the rate of 62 percent of annual salary All of the employers input and 22 percent of the employees would go to the Social Security general fund to support survivor dependent and dis ability payments See WILSON Page 12A inside IWs Issue Bridge 7C Calendar 4A Classifieds 6C Crossword Dear Abby Horoscope 8C
