Whats Going On Bills Reintroduced Today WASHINGTON cashing a check or receiving today it might be a I good idea to count your money with extra care In com memoration of Thomas Jeffer sons birthday the government is introducing bills into the nations money supply Banks have been holding the new bills for a couple of days now with directions to keep them in their vaults until today By yearend 400 million of the new bills will have been dis including 225 million today President Ford received the first Monday from Treasury Secretary William E Simon in a brief White House ceremony It cost the President two bills Lively Debate Held Senate Backing Defense Budget WASHINGTON AP The Senate is backing President Fords request for a record peacetime defense budget but is making no moves to cut do spending that the ad ministration finds unnecessary or undesireable In adopting an overall billion federal spending ceiling for fiscal 1977 the Senate beat down an attempt to cut defense programs by million The Senate on Monday gave Ford nearly all he asked for de fense trimming only mil lion from the billion he requested The million ad cut proposed in an amendment by Sen Birch Bayh DInd was beaten by a 5827 vote Judge Orders Strikers To Work SAN FRANCISCO AP Union officials have reacted negatively to a new proposal for ending the 14day municipal craft workers walkout On Monday a judge ordered strikers to return to work The new plan presented Mon day night to 10 striking unions would soften scheduled pay cuts by stretching them over a threeyear period in order to reduce the impact persons and injuring nore than 30 the Defense Min stry announced Most of the dead and injured were women working in the cartridge loading plant which was destroyed the ministry aid There was no annexation of a 76acre area of Sil ver Bluff Estates had pro and con representatives at the meet ing When both sides had been heard the council members boted unanimously in favor of the annexation Roland Windham answered We hope it will be within two years Windham explained that expansion of the sewer system is very expensive and added that the city cannot guarantee when it will be done However Windham stressed The sooner you get in and the sooner you get pro the sooner the system can be hooked up Another question concerned whether or not citizens are required to hook up to the city Windham replied that resi dents are not required to tie in immediately but if septic tank trouble develops they must at that time hook up to the city Windham stressed that annexation residents are en to tie in as soon as possible Mrs Harleson raised another point saying it was her under standing that residents would be allowed to pay the hook up fee on an installment plan This seemed to baffle council finance coordinator of Aiken County has filed for the Democratic nomination to the Treasurers post She will be facing Margie H Plunkett in the primary A native of Aiken Mrs Bur gess is a graduate of Aiken High School and has taken ad courses in bookkeeping and English She joined the county office in 1957 as a clerk in the ers office She later became chief clerk In 1973 she became head bookkeeper
