Sudlow Lake murder case a year old today is de scribed by Aiken County Sheriff Paul D Grant as one of the most baffling cases Ive ever worked He gives two reasons the motive why would anyone want to shoot some children fishing on a creek bed he asks pleadingly To date he said there is no motive for the killing of Julie Widgeon and the wounding of Gary Jerrell August 23 at a Belvedere pond The case was not dis covered until the next day The sheriff adds until we come up with a motive theres no way to clear the case A second point he em is the lack of per sons with knowledge of the fatal day From all the people we have talked to no one saw anything or heard any thing he said With apparently no leads to pursue Grant states Maybe the motive was jealousy or something maybe it was some one tike the fellow in Texas who killed 27 was his motive Aiken County Sheriff Paul Gram asks the case is being work ed on just as hard as it can be were still interview ing and still questioning its as case remains on the sheriffs department Puzzled Sheriff Grant admits readily the case has caused him great anxiety with worry over the fact such a type person could have been or may still be in the county In search of a motive Grant continues to ask him self What could a 15year old do to cause someone to kill her Maybe the motive was jealousy or something else or maybe it was some one like the
